About 2 weeks before Will and Katie arrived this summer, the twins flooded our bedroom and garage. We aren't 100% sure what happened but this is our theory. Both girls love to run the water in our bedroom sinks, but Jocelyn is a big fan of putting water in little containers and dumping it down the sink. We think she put warm water in a container that held coconut oil and dumped it down the sink, where is solidified and created the mother of all clogs. Then she (or her sister, we don't know) left the water running and left the room. I was downstairs in the kitchen when I heard a loud sound coming from the garage, which I thought was the crackling of fire. As it turns out, it was water cascading through the floor of our bedroom into the garage. We spent the majority of the summer trying to put the house back together after the flood. Thank goodness for insurance!

This is our bedroom vanity area that was flooded. They had to remove the sinks, cabinets, toilet, linoleum and rug.

The restoration company sealed off the area and started the drying fans. It took four days to dry out with the fans running constantly.

The flood went through our bedroom floor into the garage so the restoration guys had to remove all of our stuff from the shelves in the garage to test the drywall for water. Luckily it only ran down one stud in the garage wall and dripped outside.

They took the garage apart to make sure everything could dry out properly, then encased this area in plastic and started more fans in the garage.
|
It took about a month before they were able to start our rebuild, but we got new carpet in our bedroom, along with new counter tops and linoleum. This picture was right after they pulled out the carpet.

New carpet!

New carpet and linoleum - note that the toilet is still in the shower. The plumber was the last one to do his part of the job.

My dad helped us take down the crummy wooden shelves that were in the house when we moved in. We used our insurance money to buy new metal shelves. It was a great opportunity to reorganize the whole garage.
